Qualifications
Medsource CC recruits for some of the world’s premier lines. These companies provide competitive salary packages and excellent work environments. As such, they look for staff with the best qualifications.
We have found the ideal ship doctor to be a General Practitioner with good experience in at least one of the disciplines of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, ICU, Anesthetics or ER. The alternative is a doctor currently in an aforementioned discipline, whom also have some GP experience. For nurses, we prefer people with good experience in ICU or major ER. Only fully Registered Nurses can work on ships.
The candidate should be at least 3 years, but preferably 5 years postgraduate, and have completed a current ACLS course.
If the doctor feels him or herself not ready yet, I can strongly recommend diplomas or refresher courses in Emergency Medicine, Anesthetics and Family Practice. For Nurses, work in ICU and a major ER environment is excellent ongoing preparation for life at sea.
Basic computer literacy is a big bonus (a must!). Work in a ship’s Medical Center is PC centered, and the better you are at computers, the quicker the administrative duties get done and out of the way. This is especially true for nurses, but also applies to doctors.
